Definition of Backdoors and rootkits
Operating in the same way, these variants of malware install themselves using exploits
and vulnerabilities in network connections and operating systems, allowing undetected
access to your computer system.
Levels of access could be basic, allowing a worm to spread, but they can also be
scarily advanced when combined with other malware, providing remote control of features
such as the mouse, keyboard, disk drive, and webcam.
Well known versions are freely available on the Internet, but remainly unmodified
will be detected by up-to-date anti-virus software. More malicious rarely used versions
provide more danger.
